Back in April I was invited to attend an event in Atlanta hosted by The Home Depot called the Prospective. At the event a group of tool lovers, like myself, and media were shown the up and coming tools and tool technology being released this year by major tool brands.

THDprospective event in Atlanta. Tool brands presenting the new tools and technology for 2017.

One technology that I found particularly neat is the One-Key by Milwaukee. Milwaukee has started putting One-Key bluetooth technology inside of their tools to help you track tools and even control your tools with an app!  Borrowed your Milwaukee drill out to your neighbor and they keep ‘forgetting’ to bring it back, no problem just turn the battery off with your app. Then your neighbor will bring it back. 🙂

One accessory in the One-Key line up is the Milwaukee Tick tool and equipment tracker.

Cordless Summer Fun Power Tools

One benefit of being a Ryobi Nation contributor is that sometimes I get to try out the new tools coming out.  The designers at Ryobi must have summer fun on the brain with these new tools.  Work Hard and Play Hard right!  The nice thing is that these summer fun power tools use the same 18V Ryobi batteries that you already have in the garage/shop.  Charge up those batteries and head out to the lake to cool off! It's time to get out of the shop and have some summer fun, but don't worry you can take your power tools with you. 3 cordless summer fun power tools that you need!

Each year on the 4th of July, the whole fam gets together for the good old home town celebration.  We start the day off with exhilarating races for the kids and adults, foot races, 3-legged races and potato sack races. Then on to the candy toss, money in the hay, egg toss, the grease pole and Coach Braithwaite’s tennis tournament! There is a program on the park center stage along with fun booths and of course yummy food.

5 hops then she was done 🙂

In the evening, it’s off to the community parade, a BBQ and the finale is the spectacular city firework show! My Dad loves to drive his Power Horse tractor in the parades.  Don’t tell those queens what kind of ‘trailer’ they’re riding in 🙂 Spreading sunshine!

During the middle of the day when there is a break in festivities, often the temperature gets to be about 100 degrees and we need to find a way to stay cool.  We head on down to the ‘res’ for a little water fun.  This year I brought my Ryobi cordless summer fun gear and everyone loved it.

First, I rolled out the Ryobi Air Conditioning cooler.

The baby had fallen asleep, so I put her in the shade tent with the A/C going and that helped keep her cool.

The cool Ryobi cooler has two compartments on top, one to stash stuff and the other for the battery.  The battery runs the fan that will blow cold air if you have ice in the cooler.

There is a cooling tower inside the ice chest part that will circulate the air through to make it cold.

One thing we found out is that you can either choose to use the cooler as an ice chest or A/C unit (not both). If the A/C is on it won’t keep your popsicles frozen, but it will definitely keep drinks nice and cold.

To blow up all of the water toys, my Dad usually packs a gas generator and compressor to the lake. As he was getting the generator and compressor going I said Hey, I have a tool for that. I pulled out the Ryobi high volume inflator, he looked at it and said Oh the compressor will be faster. So we raced 🙂 the Ryobi inflator won, hands down. Plus it’s a whole lot smaller and more convenient.

By the time we were done, the inflator was on all of my siblings buy list. It can handle the big toys (like shown), pop on the small nozzle and blow up small things like floating toys/rings.  The great thing is that you can move the nozzle from the front to the top and now you have a de-flator. Also the trigger has a setting so you don’t have to hold it down the whole time. Ya we’ve used this tool a bunch this summer, it’s a great buy for $25!!!

While we take turns with the water toys, it’s nice to have some tunes going on the beach. These new bluetooth wireless radio/speakers are so handy.

18-Volt One+ Score Wireless Speaker Set with Skaa Technology

There is a mother radio/speaker that you can turn on the radio or connect to your phone’s playlist via bluetooth. Connect up to 4 additional ‘children’ speakers wirelessly up to 150 feet.

We loved this. We spread out the speakers down the line of chairs on the beach so everyone in the group could hear the music without it BLASTING on one end of the group and the people on the other end barely hearing it. The mother/child speakers all run off of 18v batteries or can be plugged in. Super convenient.

Take a break this summer and go have some FUN!

Wood Louver A/C Unit Screen

Are you tired of seeing your A/C unit in your beautiful garden or patio? Want to hide that ‘less than attractive’ pool equipment? Cover up that unsightly house equipment with an outdoor wood louver AC unit screen. The screen is robust, but it can be lifted out of the way if work is required on the unit.

The cedar slats are angled to give a louvered look and allow for essential air flow to the A/C unit.

You’ll need to evaluate the size of screen needed for your equipment and area. The plans allow for about 1 foot clearance around my unit. Adjust the plans for your area A/C unit requirements. The more clearance the better for air flow to the air conditioning condenser.

Remodelaholic put out the call and I thought it would be fun to participate in her structural lumber feature week called 2×4 and more. A while back I saw this Modera style console table and wanted to try those funky legs. It was the perfect piece to build out of all 2×4’s and easy too.
