R2-D2 Side Table

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

My little boy loves robots.  Someday he hopes to design robots for fight bots (he’s 6).  For years his very favorite robot has been R2-D2 (Artoo Detoo if you’re hardcore).  A couple of years ago I got this idea for an easy R2-D2 side table, it’s not a replica by any means, just a novelty side table.  It ties in really well with his Star Wars fighter shelf and hyperspace wall.

I’m still working on R2-D2’s head, which I’m planning on making a lamp.

Twin Bed with Faux Raised Panel

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

My little girl is growing up too fast.  It’s time for her to upgrade to a big girl bed and she’s really excited about it.  She told me ‘Momma my bed is cute’.  That makes all of the effort worth it!

Her twin bed is really easy to build with a Kreg pocket hole jig*. The added molding makes the headboard and foot board look like raised panel.  You can add as much molding as you like, to make it look fancy (or non at all).  This twin bed is so easy to DIY. To make the bed super easy to disassemble, I used bed rail hardware* to attach the bed rails to the head/foot boards.  In lieu of the hardware, you can use pocket holes too.  Wood slats across the bed rail support the mattress so no box spring is needed.

The building materials for this bed cost me a little over $100.

For this twin bed plan, I was able to partner with BuildSomething.com. BuildSomething is a great community resource for woodworkers and DIY’ers, that may not have a site of their own, to share the plans they’ve created online.  Shared plans don’t have to be computer generated, even hand sketches will work.

Simple Twin Bed Trundle

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

It’s time for my little girl to graduate to a big girl bed!  I decided to add a trundle to her new bed, then we can have an extra spot for when the cousins came to stay.  This simple twin bed trundle is really so easy to build.  Even if you don’t want an extra bed, it can provide tons of extra storage.  I’ve even seen on Pinterest where people have created car play areas in a trundle box.  The plans for the matching Twin Bed are at BuildSomething.com.

Empire Dresser in Princess Purple

Hi!  I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest Her Tool Belt  and if you love instagram, you can keep up with me there too!

I’m so happy to be finally posting this project, it’s been a tale of waffling on decisions!  I have had this dresser built since July, but I could not decide on the finish.  I have been wanting to build a dresser for my little 2 year old princess.  I really like the curves of the old empire style dressers.  Then I saw this modern version of the empire style by Ethan Allen.  I think the shape is fabulous, so I came up with some plans that are inspired by it.  I ended up finishing it in princess purple :-). (aka Amy Howard Orchid)  In real life the color is a little more purple and less pink.
