My Aunt’s house was built in the early 90’s, when honey oak was all the rage. She’s had a few updates along the way, but she is ready to get rid of her honey oak mantel and go light and bright with a modern craftsman mantel and shiplap wall. One major goal of this makeover is to mount her large 75″ TV above her fireplace. The current oak mantel is too tall to mount the TV and it is not wide enough to look balanced with the TV.

Before I came to help her with the mantel and shiplap wall, she had an electrician come and move some outlets and put a cord tube (blue) in the wall so she won’t have cords showing.

She is LOVING the new look and having the TV mounted and out of the corner of the room. The bright white really lightens up the space up!

This post will show how I built the mantel from a $32 sheet of MDF and some 2×4’s. This whole wall makeover with the shiplap, mantel, paint, supplies etc came in less than $300. It made a huge impact and didn’t cost that much money! yay

Queen X Barn Door Farmhouse Bed Plan

A little while ago, I built myself a X Barn door farmhouse bed – king size, which we love. The version of the king bed I made has storage underneath the bed. I received a few requests to make plans for Queen size bed without the under bed storage.  If interested, here are plans for a matching nightstand – Farmhouse X Nightstand

Farmhouse style wood signs are a fun way to personalize your space. They are fairly easy to make yourself too. What’s your favorite style of farmhouse sign? Do you love hand painted, vinyl or even 3D with wood cut outs applied to the sign?  Today I’m making a wood sign that is engraved with a dremel rotary tool. I wanted a pleasant greeting (Welcome to our Home) to go above my free pallet console table in the entryway.

Sleigh Rides Wood Sign

Hi, and welcome to the first day of the 12 Days of a DIY Christmas! I’ve teamed up with 11 builder friends to bring you 12 fun woodworking projects.

I’m excited to see what the others have up their sleeves, but I’ll have to contain my excitement for another day!

I like to save extra pieces of plywood from projects and use them to make wood signs. I needed a coordinating sign for my Santa Sleigh and Reindeer.

The best thing is that this sign can be used past Christmas throughout the winter season! After Christmas, a cute bench replaces Santa’s Reindeer and Sleigh.

For this farmhouse house sleigh rides wood sign, I cut ‘Sleigh Rides’ out of scrap 1/4″ plywood to make the letters pop a little and give the sign dimension. Cutting out the ‘sleigh ride’ is totally optional, the words can be stenciled/painted onto the sign instead.

Farmhouse Coffee Table with Hidden Storage

This month’s theme on Ryobi Nation is Hidden Gems and I have just the project in mind. I’ve been wanting to update my coffee table to the farmhouse style, but I need some hidden storage for remotes, art supplies and homework papers. The coffee table seems to be my kids’ focal point for playing and activities.

This farmhouse style coffee table is really easy to build. You’ll need:

I used Euro hinges for the top lid. You can choose the soft close option if you’re worried about little fingers!
